I had spent thousands of hours wishing and thousands of dollars to realize my wish to become male instead of female. Now, after nineteen years, I was finally going to have a license that accurately designated my male gender. When my number was called, I asked for the form to change the sex designation on my license. The female clerk on the other side of the counter looked incredulous, and I repeated the request.
